About Boncrek

DAVID JOHNSON B.A.

Director | Cinematographer | Editor

Boncrek’s first foray into film was in 2009 with the release of the Christian short film No Apologies. From there he saw a future in media and switched programs at UTech to enrol in a media degree. His final year documentary Just Action found an audience at GATFFEST 2015. It chronicled the challenges of filmmaking in Jamaica and won the Viewer's Choice Award for Best Documentary.

Now as an established Director and Cinematographer, he would partner with Aliceia Dawkins to release Snapshot Kingston in 2016. The short film won numerous awards at Lignum Vitae and GATFFEST 2016. He now has his sights set on tackling heavier stories and themes.

The short action film UNBOUND was released in 2017 to several film festivals around the world. In 2021 he was one of four teams selected for UNICEF’s Spotlight Initiative aimed at combatting gender-based violence. This coincides with his latest film I Was Only Twelve which is due to be released in early 2022.
